Just over 50 health and community professionals from around Western Australia joined Know Injury for the Older Adult Injuries: The Incidence and Cost of Injury in WA seminar on Thursday 7 September. The event was the third in the series of seminars detailing components of the Department of Health’s report, Incidence and Costs of Injury in Western Australia 2012.
The seminar focused on research, policy and practice perspectives on older adult injuries in WA, with speakers including Dr Delia Hendrie, Dr Nicholas Waldron and Sandy Lukjanowski. Dr Delia Hendrie presented key findings from the report, Dr Nicholas Waldron highlighted policy implications of the increasing rate of falls among older adults in WA, and Sandy Lukjanowski discussed practical implementation with older adults, particularly through the Stay On Your Feet® program.
The event was well received and sparked discussion among attendees. A big thank you to Dr Erica Davidson from the Department of Health for facilitating the event. The next seminar in the series, Water Injuries: The Incidence and Cost of Injury in WA, is scheduled for Tuesday 5 December, to be delivered in partnership with Royal Life Saving Society WA. More information coming soon.
