Hospitalised Sports Injuries in Australia

Sport is a setting which can attract lots of injuries, however it is often overlooked as a public health issue or a priority setting for injury prevention. Sports injuries frequently lead to hospital admittance, as captured in the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare’s (AIHW) recent report, Hospitalised Sports Injury in Australia, 2016-17.

Dr Sarah Harris from the Australian Centre for Research into Injury in Sport and its Prevention at Edith Cowan University recently delivered a webinar with Injury Matters to increase participant’s awareness of the incidence of sports injuries, their associated impact and the need for prevention.

Sports injuries can be prevented, but we need to understand the injury incidence and causality in order to prevent their occurrence.
